Our expertise in sport-related matters is foremost based on the profound experience gained from acting as a member of an arbitral tribunal or as a party representative in international and national disputes. Christian served for eight years as an arbitrator at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), Lausanne, Switzerland, and subsequently at the German Court for Sports Arbitration (DIS-Sportschiedsgericht) in a high number of arbitrator mandates. We have handled disputes, inter alia, dealing admission to associations, integrity issues, investor claims and contractual matters.
Cases dealing with the manipulation of soccer matches, transfer of minors or the status of associations are examples which found public attention.
Christian also led the team that investigated on behalf of the German Football Association (Deutscher Fußball-Bund, DFB) whether there were any irregularities related to the German tender for hosting the FIFA soccer world cup 2006, discovering the flow of funds from Frankfurt, Germany, through Switzerland to the Middle East and many unknown documents.
Our expertise in sports is not limited to dispute resolution. We have also advised clients on other sports-related matters, including analyses and advice regarding governance structures, sponsorship agreements, transfer deals and investments.
