Prof Dr Christian Duve is working with startups and entrepreneurs as a lawyer and as a pre-seed angel investor. He is excited about the opportunities for impact and innovation and actively follows the emerging regulatory framework for technologies, such as artificial intelligence and blockchain.

Christian continues to act as a strategic advisor in selected commercial arbitration, litigation and mediation proceedings. For more than 20 years, Christian has been a partner and lawyer with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP, a leading international law firm. During this time, Christian gathered broad experience in resolving commercial disputes and leading fact-finding missions. For example, in 2015/2016, Christian led an investigation on behalf of the German Football Association (DFB) regarding the question of whether potential irregularities affected the tender for the FIFA World Cup 2006 in Germany.

Christian has been sitting as an arbitrator in more than 100 arbitration proceedings and served as counsel in about 40 arbitration proceedings. In commercial disputes, his main focus areas are post M&A-disputes, joint venture disputes and other corporate disputes. Christian has also mediated numerous commercial mediation cases. Recurring themes are, for example, disputes among shareholders, the search for an orderly dissolution of joint ventures, an adjustment of long term business relationships and dealing with unexpected economic circumstances.

In his capacity as a board member of the German Bar Association (Deutscher Anwalt Verein, DAV), Christian leads a task force on Legal Tech. In addition to seminars re. football and law or dispute resolution, Christian lectures on artificial intelligence and regulation.
